April MWCCC Update

Welcome to April! Hopefully everyone has been able to get out and take advantage of this unseasonably warm spring around the midwest – whether that be road riding, mountain, gravel, track, or BMX. That actually brings me to my first point:

Virtual Racing

Some of you might be wondering from my last update whatever happened to the virtual racing series. Short answer: I was under the impression that some sort of national series was coming in early March, with collegiate categories, but to date, I haven’t seen anything. Since it has been so warm out, and since many people have been cooped up on the trainer for so long, I’m going to venture a guess that interest in a virtual series is pretty low. Let me know if I’m wrong, and I can still put something together just for the MWCCC.

2021 Mountain Bike Series

It’s time to start planning for returning to racing with our 2021 mountain bike season! This is of course still dependent upon COVID and travel protocols, but I’m fairly confident we’ll be good to race in some capacity. With that, I’ve put together the 2021 Planning Spreadsheet. If you’re interested in hosting, please fill out your preference for dates. Keep in mind that we do have a short window between Track Nationals and Mountain Bike Nationals this year, so we’ll have to see how the schedule shapes out. Please enter your dates by May 14th if possible, and I’ll have the schedule finalized by May 26th.

MWCCC Century Challenge

I want to give you all a heads up on a Strava challenge (unofficial) that I’m putting together for the month of May. We may not all be able to be together racing right now, but we can get out and ride. Thus, any riding completing a century (100 miles) during the month of May will be entered to win some sweet prizes. Don’t think you can ride a full century? Try a metric century – 100km or 62 miles. Riders completing that distance will also be entered in to win some slightly less prizes. I’ll send out a submission form closer to May, but I wanted to give riders a heads up to adequately train and prepare a date (any day in May works). Make sure you’re a member of our Strava Club to get started, and please don’t attempt either distance without at least some training ahead of time. Who knows – maybe I’ll even throw out some prizes for weekly distance or elevation leaders in April.

That’s all I have for now. Hope to see some of you at races upcoming – with proper COVID protocols, of course!
